Terms of service
These terms cover what you are buying when you book a class, a private session or a gift card at Paints and Sticks, 6 W. French Avenue, Temple, Texas. They are written to be read, so they are short and in plain language. Booking a seat means you accept them.
What you are actually buying
A seat at one specific class, on one specific date, at one specific time. Not a subscription, not a membership, and not a product that gets delivered. Nothing on this site ships: classes happen in the studio, gift cards arrive by email, and art supplies are bought and collected at the studio. Every price shown includes the materials, the tools, the aprons and the firing — there is nothing to buy on the day and nothing to bring.
Booking and payment
Seats are paid for in full at the time of booking, in US dollars, and a seat is only held once payment has gone through. Classes are small on purpose, so the number of seats shown is real: when it reaches zero the class is genuinely full.
Changing your mind
Cancellations, credit and no-shows are covered by our refund policy, which is part of these terms.
If we have to change something
Occasionally a class has to move or be cancelled — illness, a kiln that will not cooperate, too few people booked to make a class work. If that happens we will tell you as early as we can and you choose between a refund and studio credit. We do not run a class with fewer people than makes it worth your evening.
Age, and who can come
Each class says who it is for. Anyone under 16 needs an adult booked into the room with them unless the class is listed as a drop-off camp. Classes marked for adults involve a kiln, sharp tools or both, and are not suitable for children even accompanied.
In the room
You will be working with hot equipment, sharp tools, wire and glazes. Please follow the instructions you are given, wear something you do not mind ruining, and tell us before the class starts about anything we should know — an allergy, a pregnancy, limited mobility, a latex or clay sensitivity — so the evening works for you. We may ask someone to stop or leave, without a refund, if they are putting themselves or anyone else at risk.
What you make
Everything you make belongs to you. Pottery has to be fired and is ready two to three weeks later; if it is not collected within 60 days we may have to recycle it for space, and we will contact you before that happens. Kilns are not perfectly predictable — a piece occasionally cracks or a glaze behaves oddly in the firing. We will always tell you what happened, and where it was our mistake we will offer you a seat in another class, but we cannot guarantee any individual piece survives a firing.
Photographs
We sometimes photograph work and the room for the website. If you would rather not appear, say so at the start of the class and that is the end of it — no explanation needed.
Gift cards
Gift cards are delivered by email, do not expire, cannot be exchanged for cash and are not refundable. They can be used on any class with a seat available.
Private bookings
A private booking reserves the whole room for your group for the agreed time. The price covers up to the stated number of guests; additional guests are charged per person. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink, including alcohol for adult groups, and you are responsible for your group behaving sensibly around equipment that is hot and sharp.
The limit of what we owe you
If something goes wrong with a booking, what we owe you is capped at what you paid for that booking. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; the version on this page at the time you book is the one that applies to your booking.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas.
